Inspiring News Stories You Need This Week (July 9, 2018)
The news is often filled with doom and gloom stories that make it appear that the end of the world is rapidly approaching. From political turmoil and natural disasters to celebrity suicides and literal attacks on the media, there is so much bad news that the good news gets overlooked. Here are a few news stories to kick your week off on a good foot.
1. Girl Saves Drowning Brother
CNN posted an article about Lexie, a 9-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who saved her 1-year-old brother Leeland, who wandered outside as his family was getting ready to celebrate Lexie’s birthday. While Lexie is unable to walk or talk, when she noticed that her brother was in danger, she screamed and pointed her family in the direction of the pool, prompting them to take immediate emergency action. The city of Halifax has named her a hero for her good deed.
2. Wonder Woman Visits Children’s Hospital
It is not every day that children get to witness a real-life superhero, but children in a hospital in Falls Church had an opportunity to see Wonder Woman in the flesh. The Washington Post reported that Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot visited Inova Children’s Hospital in Falls Church, decked out in her superhero gear, to visit patients and staff during the filming of Wonder Woman 1984, which is in the filming process now. Staff members took to Twitter to thank her for taking the time to make the children happy.
3. Bermuda Man is Mowing Lawns with a Mission
In 2016, Rodney Smith, a Bermuda native, saw an elderly man mowing his lawn one day, prompting Smith to want to help him. After helping him finish, Smith went on to create a house maintenance company called Raising Men Lawn Care Service. While it appears that the goal of this was solely to help the elderly do household chores free of charge, the mission goes much deeper. Smith uses the company as a way to mentor young children and teaches them about lawn mower safety.
4. From Ashes to Happily Ever After
The Associated Press reported a story about a couple that is literally rising out of the ashes to find true love and happiness. The recently-married couple returned to their home in Goleta after it was destroyed in the wildfire. While this story is tragic in many ways, the couple found the engagement ring, and husband Ishu decided to re-propose to wife Laura with the marred ring. The ring was found in what was once the kitchen. The moment helped put a smile on wife Laura’s face, if only for a moment.
